What to Know Before You Buy

Ram 1500 & TRX Bolt Pattern

The 2019–2026 Ram 1500 and TRX use 6x139.7 (6x5.5) bolt pattern with 106.1mm center bore. All JDM wheels in this guide are designed for this fitment. Offsets range from -20mm (aggressive) to +22mm (conservative) depending on width and desired stance.

All Sold as Sets of 4

Unlike some USA brands, Volk Racing, Rays Offroad, Gram Lights, Advan, and SSR sell exclusively as sets of 4. We’ve normalized all prices to per-wheel for fair comparison. A $2,400 set = $600 per wheel.

Construction: Cast vs. Flow-Formed vs. Forged

Cast (Gram Lights 57DR) is the most affordable. Flow-formed (SSR FFT-R, Advan mold-form) stretches the rim for strength. Forged (Volk, Rays Offroad) offers the best strength-to-weight. For Ram 1500/TRX, flow-formed and forged are ideal for heavy truck use.

Sizing & Offset for Ram 1500

Factory Ram 1500/TRX wheels are typically 18x9. JDM options here range from 17x8.5 to 18x9. Offset affects stance: negative (-20mm) pushes the wheel out; positive (+0mm to +22mm) keeps it tucked. Match offset to your tire width and desired look.

Brand Profiles at a Glance

SSR (Speed Star Racing, Osaka 1971) pioneered the three-piece wheel and helped establish Japan’s JWL standard in 1973. Their FFT-R flow-forming stretches the rim for strength without full forging cost.

Advan is Yokohama Wheel’s performance brand. The RG-D2 (2016) continues the RG series from 1995, combining mold-form forging with flow-formed rims for a lightweight, rigid wheel.

Gram Lights is Rays’ cast/flow-formed sub-brand. The 57DR-X offers the iconic 57 design at a lower price than forged Volk. The 57DR-X HD adds a reinforced flange for heavy-duty (2,600 lb load, JWL-T+).

Rays Offroad extends Rays’ forged expertise to trucks and SUVs. The 05X and D9 are purpose-built for 6x139.7, with multiple sizes and offsets. Japanese forging at a lower price than Volk.

Volk Racing is Rays’ flagship. The TE37 (1996) — “Touring Evolution, 3.7 kg” — won Le Mans with Mazda 787B and now dominates WEC. Large PCD variants (TE37 Ultra Large, TE37PRO, TE37XT, ZE40X) fit Ram 1500/TRX. Proprietary alloy, 10,000+ ton forging, 1/1000mm machining.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are JDM wheels sold as sets of 4?

Japanese wheel manufacturers (Volk, Rays, Advan, SSR) traditionally sell in sets to ensure matching production batches and consistent finish. It also simplifies inventory and guarantees you get four wheels from the same run. No singles available.

What offset works best for the Ram 1500 and TRX?

Factory Ram 1500/TRX wheels are typically 18x9 with around +19mm offset. For a flush or slightly aggressive stance, +0mm to +15mm works well. For a wider look, -20mm pushes the wheel out. Match offset to tire width and desired clearance.

What’s the difference between Rays Offroad and Volk Racing?

Both are made by Rays Engineering (Japan). Volk Racing is the flagship forged brand with the iconic TE37 lineage. Rays Offroad applies the same forging expertise to truck/SUV fitments (6x139.7) at a lower price. Same quality, different market focus.

Is the Gram Lights 57DR-X HD better for the TRX?

The 57DR-X HD has a reinforced rim flange and 2,600 lb load capacity (JWL-T+), making it ideal for heavy trucks like the TRX. The standard 57DR-X is lighter and suited to lighter vehicles. For Ram 1500/TRX, the HD variant is the better choice.

Do I need new lug nuts for JDM wheels?

Often yes. JDM wheels may use different seat types (conical, ball) or require different lug lengths. Ram 1500/TRX use M14x1.5. Check each product listing for included hardware or recommended lug nuts.
