Everything You Need to Know When Buying a Supercharger Kit for your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram Hemi
There are so many misconceptions and confusion regarding the purchase of a Supercharger Kit for your 5.7L Hemi, 6.1L SRT8, 6.4L 392 or 6.2L Hellcat / Trackhawk / TRX. We all know it’s a large purchase. Everyone is looking for the best price. But what most other companies do is list and/or sell Supercharger Kits at the bare option level. This presents so many issues for the customer, because the company who sold them the kit did not provide the customer with adequate information that is necessary to make a proper purchase, with the correct options for their intended setup.
This does NOT happen with FastHemis. We are the leader in Hemi Supercharger Kit offerings. Not just selling these units, but also the installation of these systems. We have sold and installed hundreds of Hemi Supercharger Systems from Procharger, Whipple, Magnuson, Ripp, Vortech, Edelbrock, Sprintex and More.
From our two plus decades of experience in Hemi Supercharging, we can provide valuable information for our customers to guide them and ultimately prevent customers like yourself, from making huge mistakes during the shopping and purchase process.
PURCHASING A COMPLETE KIT VS. TUNER KIT
A great example is purchasing a Complete Kit vs. Tuner Kit. A major issue is that most companies sell Supercharger Kits at Tuner Kit pricing without specifying to the customer if they are buying a Complete Kit or a Tuner Kit.
Let me explain the difference between the two. A Tuner Kit is just the Supercharger Kit itself. Therefore, the pricing is lower but the Tuner Kit does not include any fuel or tuning / tuning components. Tuner Kits do not include larger Fuel Injectors, upgraded Map Sensor, upgraded Fuel Pump (or Fuel Pump Booster), Handheld Programmer / Flash Tool or the Supercharger Tune. Those components are 100% NECESSARY. Let me explain.
The Tuner Kit is geared for the following Hemi owners:
1) Customers who plan on going with their own fuel and tuning components (different size Fuel Injectors, different Fuel Pump, different MAP Sensor, different Tuner, etc) other than what is provided with the Complete Kits from a Supercharger manufacturer (Procharger, Whipple, Magnuson, Ripp, etc).
2) Customers in need of a custom tune because of their setup. A custom tune is required for those running an aftermarket Camshaft, Long-Tube Headers, Forged Internals or other upgrades beyond just an aftermarket Cat-Back Exhaust, Intake or Throttle Body upgrade. This is because the Tune provided with a Complete Kit is only efficient with factory exhaust manifolds, factory camshaft, factory pistons, etc.
Yes, it is more cost effective to purchase the Complete Kit vs. purchasing the additional fuel components, custom tuning, etc. That’s because purchasing the additional Fuel and Tuning components individually and doing a custom tune is more expensive all together. However, if you purchase a Complete Kit and have more than just simple bolt-on upgrades (as mentioned above) and install it along with the fuel components and tuning provided with the Complete kit, the vehicle will most likely run too lean (not enough fuel). Running too lean on a forced induction engine, leads to catastrophic engine failure (blown head gasket, broken or damaged piston rings, valvetrain damage and more).
If you plan on investing $7-10k on a Supercharger Kit, you better make damn sure you have the proper Fuel and Tuning required to run safe AFR’s (Air Fuel Ratios) and Engine Timing. Otherwise, your worst nightmare will soon become a reality.
That is why FastHemis is here. We have specialized in Modern Hemi Chrysler, Dodge, Ram and Jeep for nearly two decades. Not only do we sell the parts, but we install them too. That includes hundreds of Supercharger Kits for customers. Based on their level of modifications prior to purchasing and installing a Supercharger System, we can make the proper determination on which route the customer needs to go (Complete Kit vs Tuner Kit w/ additional fuel and tuning).
In our opinion, going with a Complete Kit is the best alternative for Hemi customers whose vehicle is stock or with only simple bolt-on modifications (intake, throttle body, cat-back, etc) and stock engine internals (OEM pistons, rods, camshaft and valvetrain). This is because the fuel/tuning provided with the Complete Kit will be dialed for full efficiency and engine operation for that particular vehicle (minimal to no modifications). If this is you (minimal modifications), then you can be assured that you are purchasing a 100% Bolt-On, No Additional Components Required, No Tuning Required- A True Bolt-N-Go System.
ROOTS STYLE BLOWER VS. CENTRIFUGAL UNITS
A Roots Style Supercharger Kit is where the Blower Unit (Supercharger) is essentially built into the Intake Manifold. Roots Style Supercharger Manufacturers consist of Whipple, Magnuson, Edelbrock and Sprintex.
We recommend going with a Roots Style System for customers looking for more low-mid range torque and responsiveness. Yes, any Supercharger will produce an increase in mid-high rpm horsepower (Roots or Centrifugal). But a Roots Style is geared more on the torque side and for responsiveness, specifically low-mid range rpm levels.
Another thing to note is that Roots Style units also produce more “whine” than a Centrifugal unit, even at idle. Some customers desire to hear more whine, more instant torque and responsiveness. If this is you, this might be the way to go.
A Centrifugal Supercharger Kit is where the Supercharger Head Unit is mounted off the side of the engine using a specific Supercharger Bracket. Centrifugal Supercharger Manufacturers consist of Procharger, Ripp and Vortech. The cool thing about a Centrifugal System, is that they are geared towards maximum horsepower from mid-high rpm levels. Yes, they do provide an increase in low-mid range torque and responsiveness, but not as significant as a Roots Style Unit.
As you can see each system (Roots and Centrifugal) has its pros and cons. But again, both systems will produce significant gains in horsepower, torque and responsiveness overall. It’s just that one will provide more significant gains in one area vs. the other. Roots Style = more low-mid range torque and response. Centrifugal Style = more mid-high range horsepower.
Depending on what you prefer, it will help you decide what style of system to purchase (Roots or Centrifugal) and the Supercharger Brand (assuming they offer a kit for your Hemi vehicle). Most of the available Hemi Supercharger Systems provide the same boost levels on their complete systems, between 6-7psi.
DIFFERENCE IN SUPERCHARGER BRANDS AND SYSTEMS
Procharger is our preferred Supercharger Brand for most applications for a number of reasons:
- Most extensive offering for Hemi vehicle applications
- Most horsepower achieved on Hemi applications
- Most extensive RandD, specifically the tuning provided with their complete kits
- Most extensive Supercharger options available (up to 10 different options per system)
- Quickest build and ship times (most kits ship in 3-5 business days)
- Best bang for the buck (power vs $ spent)
As mentioned earlier, Procharger is a Centrifugal Style Supercharger System. Power gains of 200+rwhp have been achieved at the 7psi boost level. Procharger has shown to offer the most powerful systems of any Hemi Supercharger Brand that we carry. As you may have already noticed, all of the Procharger Kits we offer have multiple drop-down menu options. I would like to take some time to discuss in further detail.
SUPERCHARGER SYSTEM
Complete Kit vs. Tuner Kit we just discussed above. However, Procharger takes it further than that. They offer both kits (Complete and Tuner) as either an “HO” Kit (High-Output) or “Stage 2” Kit. Here is the difference- the HO Kit is a “Shared Drive” system and the Stage 2 is a “Dedicated Drive” system.
Shared Drive means that the same belt used for the Supercharger Pulley is “shared” with the other Accessory Pulleys (alternator, water pump, a/c, crank, etc). Dedicated Drive means that the Supercharger has its own belt for just the Supercharger. The other Engine Accessories all still utilize the factory engine belt, which is completely separate from the Supercharger Belt.
In all honesty, at least 90% of our customers choose the HO Kit. Usually, the only customers that opt for the Stage 2 Kit, are running Tuner Kits with much higher boost. The only real reason to upgrade to the Stage 2 Kit is if you are running higher boost levels (in excess of 12psi) with either a larger D-1 or F-1 Head Unit. Both of those Head Units are only offered as a “Tuner Kit”.
On a Shared Drive system (HO), you will NOT see any belt slippage at the standard 7psi boost level or even at 10psi for that matter. It’s only when you upgrade the boost level past 10psi with the larger D-1 or F-1 Head Units. When and only when belt slippage might be an issue, is where you would want to opt for the Dedicated Drive (Stage 2) system.
If you do decide you prefer the Stage 2 system, please keep in mind that you will need an ATI Harmonic Balancer to use with that setup. You cannot run a Stage 2 System with the factory Harmonic Damper.
Therefore, customers who want a Complete Kit with either the P-1SC or P-1X Head Units, should just stick with the HO (High Output) Kit. The Stage 2 is unnecessary and not to mention, more costly than the HO Kit.
Now that we just discussed the first drop-down option set, under “System”. The next drop down option is for the Supercharger “Head Unit”.
SUPERCHARGER HEAD UNIT
This refers to the type and size of the head unit of the Supercharger. If you look at the image below, you can see that the Procharger P-1SC and P-1X are the ONLY options for a Complete Kit. That is because the tuning developed by Procharger is only available for those 2 head units and vehicles with OEM Exhaust Manifolds and Engine Internals.
The difference between the two is that the P-1SC comes standard with all Procharger Kits. The P-1X is also a P-Series Head Unit, however it features newer technology and efficiency to produce an extra 10-15hp over the standard P-1SC, running the exact same boost level (~6-7psi). We believe the P-1X is a worthwhile investment for under $300 and is an option on most Procharger Hemi Complete Systems.
The D-1SC and F-1 are larger head units that are designed to flow more CFM over the standard P-1SC and P-1X. These head units again are only available if you order as a Tuner Kit. The cool thing is that if the Tuner Kit is the better route for you, you can provide us with your desired boost level (8-12+psi), as well as provide your list of modifications. We require your list of modifications with ANY Tuner Kit purchased. Let me explain why.
Let’s say you order a Tuner Kit with a D-1SC Head Unit. Let’s say you want to run 10psi of boost. Procharger will provide you with a Supercharger Pulley for that Head Unit to get that desired boost level. But what most people don’t know is that boost level will be affected by Long-Tube Headers, Camshaft Upgrades and Engine Internal Upgrades (particularly ones that have changed the compression ratio vs. OEM).
Here is a great example of what we have seen in the past. Some of our customers have purchased a system and specified 7psi of boost. They wanted to order the Complete Kit and have it custom tuned because they were running Long-Tube Headers. Long-Tube Headers decrease the back pressure of the exhaust. That decrease in back pressure will negatively affect the actual boost pressure put out.
Procharger Complete Kits come with a P-1SC standard and at the standard 7psi. A customer running Long-Tube Headers (w/ 1 7/8 Primary Tube Sizes as an example) might only see 5.5-5.8psi of boost (vs 7psi). Again, the decrease in back pressure will also decrease boost pressure. Generally speaking, there will be between 1.2-1.5psi drop in boost pressure when running Long-Tube Headers. The boost drop also relates to Aftermarket Camshafts and Engine Internal Upgrades where the Compression Ratio has changed.
That being said, when you order a Tuner Kit (recommended for customers with Long-Tube Headers, Camshaft Upgrades, Forged Engine Internals, etc), we can specify the Header brand and Primary Tube Header Size, Camshaft Specs or other Engine Internal upgrades to Procharger. They will in turn, provide a specific Pulley Size to compensate for the boost drop and help achieve the desired boost pressure you really want. This is the only way to achieve the desired boost pressure given the nature of the modifications of the vehicle.
The next drop down options are for the Supercharger Head Unit and Supercharger Bracket Finish.
SUPERCHARGER AND BRACKET FINISH
All Procharger Kits come standard with “Satin Finish” Head Units and Bracket. However, they also offer both in either “Black” or “Polished” Finishes. Like many other options, this will just add to the price. If color and finish is important to you, please consider upgrading to either Black or Polished.
This is one of the simplest options, no additional explanation is needed.
HELICAL GEARS OPTION
I am going to try to explain this the best way I can. All Procharger Kits come standard with “Straight-Cut” Gears for the Supercharger Head Unit (P-1, D-1, F-1). Although it is a completely normal noise, the standard Straight-Cut Gears produce a clattering sound that is heard mainly at idle and low RPM’s when the vehicle is cold. To best describe the clattering noise that I am referring to, is like a bunch of marbles cycling through the Supercharger Head Unit.
Again, this is completely normal noise related to Straight-Cut Gears. Nothing is wrong! It’s just not the most appealing sound to hear. And although the noise is not overwhelming, most customers prefer not to hear it.
Enter the Helical Gears option. This is the preferred option for the majority of our customers. What differentiates the Helical Gears from the Straight-Cut Gears, is that the Helical Gears are cut at an angle. Cutting them at an angle eliminates the sound resulting from Straight-Cut Gears. No clattering noise at idle and low-rpms. Same power output and reliability as the Straight-Cut Gears, just without the clattering noise. So for an extra 100 bucks, we feel the Helical Gears option is highly recommended for customers concerned with clattering noise from the Straight-Cut Gears. If this is you, go with the Helical Gears.
BYPASS VALVE
Similar to a Blow-Off Valve on a turbo vehicle, the Bypass Valve acts as a Surge Valve. The Bypass Valve releases the forced air from the Supercharger Intercooler Piping.
The Valve opens when the vehicle is under boost and you let off the throttle completely or when the vehicle shifts gears. This creates a “whoosh” sound when you let off the gas (or shift). It’s actually pretty cool, I personally enjoy the sound.
The reason all Procharger systems feature a Bypass Valve is to prevent that forced air from reversing the direction of the Supercharger Gears and Shaft, once you let off the throttle. If that occurs over time (assuming no Bypass Valve is used), it will negatively affect the longevity of the components inside the Supercharger Head Unit.
Picture this: You’ve got a crazy amount of forced air rushing through from the Supercharger to the Engine, through the Intercooler and Piping under WOT (Wide Open Throttle). Once you completely let off the throttle, that rushing, forced air has absolutely no where to go. Since it has nowhere to go, it quickly rushes backwards into the Supercharger Head Unit. The Supercharger Gears and Shaft are spinning fast asf, when they instantaneously are forced to go the opposite direction. Not good.
The Surge Valve releases that air instantaneously when that Throttle Body Flap shuts closed or as soon as the vehicle shifts gears. The releasing of that compressed forced air, relieves the pressure buildup of the air system. It ensures the longevity and reliability of the Supercharger Head Unit Components, as well as many others.
All Procharger Kits come with a Bypass Valve. However, you have the choice of either “Standard” or “Race” Bypass Valve. Most people running a P-1 or even D-1 Head Unit and less than 10psi of boost, prefer just the Standard Bypass Valve. On those Head Units with that amount of boost or less, it’s not necessary to upgrade to the Race Bypass Valve.
Could you add a Race Valve to a P-1 or D-1 system with 10psi or less? Sure. It will sound a bit louder and will work just fine. But it’s really not necessary. Therefore, most customers just stick with the Standard Bypass Valve.
If you are that guy running a D-1 or F-1 Head Unit with more than 10psi of boost, then yes, definitely get the Race Bypass Valve. You will benefit from the added capacity of air exited from the Race compared to the Standard. Keep in mind that the Surge Valve is only an option on certain Hemi applications from Procharger.
RACE INTERCOOLER UPGRADE
Similar to the Surge Valve, the Race Intercooler is not needed on Hemi vehicles running the Complete Kit (with P-1 head unit) at less than 10psi of boost. The standard Intercooler is more than sufficient and most customers select this option.
The Race Intercooler is intended for the Tuner Kit customers, running a larger Head Unit (D-1 or F-1) and running more than 10psi of boost. Even then the Race Intercooler is only recommended if you plan on making more than 750whp. If that is not you, then go with the Standard Intercooler, it will be more than enough. Also, keep in mind that the Race Intercooler is only an option on certain Hemi applications from Procharger.
UNLOCKED PCM NEEDED FOR 2015+ HEMI VEHICLES
An unlocked PCM is ONLY required for 2015+ Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram models. On 2015+ models, the factory PCM (Computer) is locked. They did this in hopes of preventing Hemi owners from Tuning their vehicles. You cannot connect a DiabloSport Tuner (or HP Tuner Module) and Tune a 2015+ Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep or Ram vehicle that still has the factory PCM. If you have a 2014 or older Hemi, then you are golden. This section does not apply to you whatsoever. Your factory PCM is unlocked already.
If it does apply to you (2015+ model owner), you have 2 options. You can either send your factory PCM to have it unlocked by DiabloSport (or in some cases HP Tuners). That has to be directly with either DiabloSport or HP Tuners, whichever tuning is used for the Procharger Kit. The cost is around $300. However, this means your vehicle will be down for at least 1-2 weeks, since you have to remove your PCM, ship it to Diablo or HP, then wait for them to unlock it and ship it back to you. Please keep that in mind.
The other option is to purchase a new Unlocked PCM from us. Yes, this is more expensive (~$1k) than sending in your original PCM ($300). However, it is good peace of mind knowing that you can retain your factory PCM (unmodified) in the case that you ever need it. You probably won’t ever need it. But in the case that you do, you still have it.
In addition, there is no down-time for your vehicle. Simply swap out your factory PCM for the Unlocked when you receive it. Then, hold onto your factory original. We prefer going this route. In doing so, we are the only company to offer the unlocked PCM as a drop-down option for our 2015+ Procharger System purchasing.
Either route you go, you will need an Unlocked PCM on any Hemi vehicle 2015+. Most Procharger Kits feature DiabloSport Tuning via Diablo’s i3 Platinum Tuner (included in Procharger Complete Kits). This requires you to run a DiabloSport Unlocked PCM. Certain Procharger Kits (just one comes to mind), features HP Tuners Tuning (via Laptop and HP Software). If that is your system, you need an HP Tuners Unlocked PCM.
The only Procharger Kit I can recall using HP Tuners is the Durango 6.4L SRT systems. If nothing has changed, all other Procharger Kits feature DiabloSport Tuning. This includes but is not limited to the Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger, Charger, Ram, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wrangler and Gladiator models (all engine sizes).
If you are unsure or want to make sure which Tuning is provided with your Procharger Complete Kit, check the product description or feel free to contact us. We are always here to help and as you can see from this article, we provide very valuable knowledge to our customers. We actually care for you guys! We want to save you the trouble, hassle and headaches that you would likely experience choosing another company for your Supercharger purchase and/or installation.
All of our Procharger Kits can be found here-
PROCHARGER TUNE RECOMMENDATION FOR COMPLETE KITS
Procharger, like other Supercharger brands, requires you to email them your original (backup) Tune file along with the serial number from the Head Unit of your Procharger Kit, once you receive your system. This is the first step that we recommend doing BEFORE installing the Supercharger Kit.
The Procharger Tune file does NOT come programmed on the DiabloSport i3 Tuner that is included with Procharger Complete Kits. They will ONLY provide that tune file via email. It is a very simple process and they walk you through the process in the instruction manual. However, in their manuals, they list it as one of the final steps. Disregard that and do it first. Trust us.
Procharger usually takes 24-48 hours to email you back their Tune, once you send it to them. Therefore, if you mistakenly decided to install the entire Supercharger Kit first, then the vehicle would be down until you have received the Tune file from them. We are trying to save you time and prepare you for this process. Again, we are here to help.
PROCHARGER OPTIONS FOR AFTERMARKET STRUT BRACES
Many customers are running Aftermarket Strut Tower Braces. Procharger is aware of that and offers two different Air Intake Options- one for vehicles with an Aftermarket Strut Brace and the other for vehicles without a Strut Brace.
The standard Air Intake that comes with Procharger Kits has larger filter and longer piping and coupler. Having that will interfere with a Strut Brace. The optional Air Intake for Strut Braces features a more compact Air Filter and shortened piping and coupler.
When ordering, we usually call the customer to confirm which Air Intake System is needed (with or w.out Strut Brace). However, you can also specify that information in the order notes at checkout, or provide that information via phone order.
1-STEP COLDER IRIDIUM SPARK PLUGS
Last but not least, it’s important to note that Procharger (along with other Supercharger brands) recommends installing 1-Step Colder NGK Iridium Spark Plugs for use with their Supercharger Kits. In addition, they also recommend a gap size between .032-.035”.
Yes, you can re-gap your OEM Spark Plugs if you desire. But having a 1-Step Colder Spark Plugs is better suited on a Forced Induction Application (Supercharger or Turbo). It is better in preventing detonation and the vehicle will run better with a 1-Step Colder Plug.
Fortunately for you, we offer a 1-step colder plug for all 5.7L Hemi, 6.1L SRT8 and 6.4L 392 Hemi models that comes gapped at exactly.032”. It’s also important to note that all Hemi engines 2005+ feature 2 Spark Plugs per cylinder. Many people don’t know that. That means instead of purchasing 8 plugs, you will require 16 plugs.
Spark Plugs are sold in boxes of (4). That means you need to purchase quantity (4) during checkout (4x4=16).
A complete list of 1-Step Colder Plugs can be found here-
Whipple is our favorite Roots Style Supercharger Brand. Like Procharger, they also have an extensive offering for Hemi Vehicles. With the release of their Gen 5 and now Gen 6 Supercharger Units, they are putting out the most power of any Roots Style System offered. Gains of 180+rwhp have been achieved on the 6.4L 392 Hemi Systems. These units are also offered as Complete Kits or as a Tuner Kit (like Procharger).
Like Procharger, the Complete Kit (Tune, Flash Tool, Tuning Credits) is recommended for customers with stock or simple bolt-on upgrades. Also like Procharger, the Tuning that they provide is for factory manifolds and factory engine internals.
If you have Aftermarket Long-Tube Headers, Aftermarket Camshaft or Forged Internals, you want to opt for the Tuner Kit (No Flash Tool) and purchase the additional Fuel and Tuning components separately (along with getting a custom tune).
VARIETY OF FINISHES AVAILABLE
Whipple also offers a variety of different finishes for their Supercharger Unit, Intake Manifold and Throttle Body Inlet. Textured Black is the standard finish. However, Gloss Black, Red, Yellow, White, Orange and Polished are available for an additional cost (starting $600). Additionally, you can decide on a completely custom color if you desire.
TUNING and UNLOCKED PCM
All Whipple Complete Kits feature HP Tuners Tuning. The Complete Kits include the HP Tuners MPVI3 OBDII Interface. This is their latest Tuning Module that eliminates the need for a laptop. You can use it to download the original Tune file and email to Whipple (same process as Procharger). They will then email you back the Whipple Tune file to download to the MVPI3 Module and upload that tune to your vehicle.
Again, all 2015+ Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram vehicles come equipped with a factory locked PCM. Therefore, the factory PCM needs to be unlocked. Unlike Procharger, the unlocking of the factory PCM is included on all 2015+ Hemi Kits. They provide you information to ship your factory PCM to HP Tuners. They will unlock your factory PCM and ship it back to you.
Alternatively, you can purchase a new Unlocked PCM from HP tuners directly. Here is a link to HP Tuners Unlocked PCM’s, as the offer these directly to the customer-
https://www.hptuners.com/product/dodge-pcm-services/
OPTIONAL WHIPPLE COLD AIR INTAKE SYSTEM
Most Whipple Kits are intended to be used with your factory Air Box. However, they do offer their own optional Cold Air Intake System. We usually recommend purchasing this additional option during checkout, as we are not huge fans of using a factory Air Box with a Supercharger Upgrade.
WHIPPLE LEAD TIMES
All Whipple Kits are Built-to-Order. Unlike Procharger, the minimum lead time for a Whipple Kit to ship is 14-16 weeks. We wish the lead time was not so lengthy. However, there is no way around this. The Kit is built by Whipple and ships directly to the customer. If you are set on a Whipple System, be patient. It is worth the wait and no matter where you purchase, the lead times will all be the same. Nobody stocks these kits. They are all built-to-order with the same lead times, no matter what Hemi vehicle application.
SPARK PLUGS INCLUDED
Unlike Procharger, Whipple includes the 1-Step Colder Spark Plugs that are recommended with any Hemi Supercharger Kit. Sweet!
All Whipple Kits can be found here-
Ripp Superchargers is our next favorite Centrifugal Supercharger Kit. They don’t have quite the offering that Procharger or Whipple do, but they provide great quality systems that make gobs of power.
All of their systems feature a Vortech V-3 Supercharger Head Unit. This is a proven Head Unit that makes great power off 7psi of boost and fully streetable, designed for longevity.
Most of their systems are for the 3.6L V6 Pennstar engines found in the 2011+ Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram vehicles. If you are a 3.6L V6 Pennstar owner, then Ripp is probably the best option for you. Most 3.6L kits are producing an additional 150+whp over stock. The 5.7L Hemi and 6.4L SRT systems are seeing increases of 170-200+whp.
All Ripp Systems are offered as Complete Kits with Tuning included. All of their 3.6L systems utilize Tuning from HP Tuners, with PCM Unlocking service included at no additional cost (like Whipple) on 2015+ vehicles.
They do offer 5.7L Hemi and 6.4L Kits for some of the Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee models. Those kits utilize Tuning by DiabloSport, with Unlocking of the PCM through DiabloSport. Alternatively, you can purchase a brand new Unlocked Diablo PCM through us.
Here is a complete list of Diablo Unlocked PCM’s that we offer (sold separately)-
Ripp is also unique in the sense that they offer optional Oil Catch Can and Ignition Coil Pack upgrades with their Supercharger Kits. They also offer 2 different finishes on their systems, Standard Satin Finish or Black Finish.
Like Procharger, they provide an Air Intake System on all systems. In addition, they provide a Vortech Race Blow-Off Valve with their Kits. Same as other Complete Kits by Procharger and Whipple, Ripp includes larger Fuel Injectors and Map Sensor upgrades with their Kits. Finally, they provide 1-Step Colder Spark Plugs with each system (like Whipple).
RIPP LEAD TIMES
Ripp kits are also built to order. However, the lead times are only 2-4 weeks. This is second behind only Procharger (3-5 days).
Here is a link to all Ripp Supercharger Kits-
Another great brand of Roots Supercharger Kits is Magnuson. The only downside is that they do not have as extensive offering for Hemi vehicles as Procharger or Whipple. They did recently release their TVS2650 systems, which are a significant update over the earlier TVS2300 models. On certain Hemi models, gains of 130-140whp have been recorded on a completely stock Hemi vehicle.
Like Whipple, HP Tuners Tuning is featured with their Complete Systems. Also, unlike Procharger or Whipple, there are little to no options for Complete Kit vs. Tuner Kit, Finishes, optional Cold Air Intakes and others.
Again, if you have a 2015+ Hemi vehicle, you will either need to send them your factory PCM and have them unlock it (included with Supercharger Kit). Alternatively, purchase a new Unlocked PCM from their website (link above in Whipple section).
Like Whipple and Ripp, 1-Step Colder Spark Plugs are provided with each of their systems.
MAGNUSON LEAD TIMES
Like Whipple, Magnuson Supercharger Kits are built to order, with minimum lead times of 14-16 weeks. Worth the lengthy wait though.
All Magnuson Kits can be seen here-
Vortech has been a leader in the Aftermarket Supercharger World for quite some time. Their Head Units (V-3) have been used by other Aftermarket Supercharger Manufacturer Systems (Ripp and others) because of their power output and reliability. Some of their 6.4L 392 Hemi Systems are producing a 200hp increase over stock. But again, not as extensive offering of Hemi Kits compared to Procharger or Whipple.
But like Procharger and Whipple, Vortech Supercharger Kits are offered in both Complete and Tuner Kits. If you need to figure out which system is best for you, please refer to the Complete Kit vs. Tuner Kit information that we listed above.
All Vortech Supercharger Kits come with the Standard Satin Finish. Unlike Procharger, they do not offer a Helical Gear Set to eliminate the clattering noise associated with Straight-Cut Gears. It’s also important to note that they do NOT provide 1-Step Colder Spark Plugs with any of their Supercharger Systems, they need to be purchased separately. See the 1-Step Colder Spark Plugs link above (in the Procharger section).
VORTECH LEAD TIMES
Vortech Supercharger Kits are also built to order, with a minimum lead time of 10-12 weeks.
All Vortech Kits can be seen here-
CARB COMPLIANCE
The majority of Supercharger Brands that we offer have 50-State Carb Legal Compliance. This includes most systems by Procharger, Whipple, Ripp, Magnuson and Vortech. Please refer to the product listing of the Supercharger Kit for the Carb Exempt # Reference
WARRANTY OPTIONS
All Supercharger Systems that we offer come with a standard 1-year warranty. However, 3-year and 5-year warranties are available through the majority of the Supercharger Brands mentioned above. Those extended warranties need to be purchased through the manufacturer following the Supercharger purchase.
