Technical Foundation

Complete vs Tuner Kit & Roots vs Centrifugal

Understanding these concepts will help you choose the right kit. Our Supercharger Buyers Guide covers this in depth; here’s the essentials.

Complete Kit vs Tuner Kit

A Tuner Kit is the supercharger hardware only. It does not include: larger fuel injectors, upgraded MAP sensor, fuel pump (or booster), handheld programmer/flash tool, or the supercharger tune. Those components are 100% necessary to run safely. Both Ripp and ProCharger offer Complete Kits for the Challenger 3.6L — no Tuner Kits for this application.

A Complete Kit includes fuel injectors, MAP sensor, fuel pump upgrade, flash tool, and tuning. It’s 100% bolt-and-go for stock or lightly modified vehicles.

Centrifugal (Ripp & ProCharger)

Both brands use centrifugal superchargers (mounted off the side of the engine). Ripp uses a Vortech V-3 head unit (proven, streetable, designed for longevity); ProCharger uses the P-1SC-1. Centrifugal systems build power toward mid-high RPM. Per the Buyers Guide: “If you are a 3.6L V6 Pentastar owner, then Ripp is probably the best option for you.” Most 3.6L kits produce 150+ whp over stock; Ripp pushes that higher with ~11–12 psi vs ProCharger’s ~7 psi. Ripp also offers optional Oil Catch Can and Ignition Coil Pack upgrades with their kits.

Important

What to Know Before You Buy

Tuning & Unlocked PCM (2015+)

2015+ Challengers have a locked PCM. Ripp includes PCM unlocking at no extra cost via HP Tuners. ProCharger uses DiabloSport — you’ll need to send your PCM to DiabloSport (~$300) or purchase a new unlocked PCM (~$1k). Ripp’s 3.6L systems use HP Tuners tuning with PCM unlock included.

Year-Specific Fitment

Ripp offers separate kits for 2015–2017 and 2018–2023 due to PCM and harness differences. ProCharger has one kit covering 2015–2023. Confirm your model year before ordering.

CARB & Emissions

ProCharger Challenger 3.6L is 50-state CARB certified. Ripp 2011–2015 Grand Cherokee 3.6L is 50-state legal; Challenger 3.6L varies — check EO numbers. All Complete kits require 91 octane minimum. Standard warranty is 1-year; extended warranties available through manufacturers.

Installation & Lead Times

Professional install recommended (8–10 hours). Budget for dyno tuning and fluids. Lead times: ProCharger ships in 1–2 business days. Ripp: 2–4 weeks (built-to-order). Ripp includes 1-step colder spark plugs; ProCharger does not — add them to your order. V6 output (400–450 whp with Ripp) rivals a stock 6.4L Hemi.

Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a dealer cannot void your entire warranty for aftermarket parts. However, powertrain claims related to forced induction may be denied.

How does a supercharged V6 compare to a 6.4L?

A Ripp or ProCharger supercharged 3.6L can produce 400–450 whp — comparable to or exceeding a stock 6.4L Hemi. It’s the most cost-effective way to dramatically upgrade your V6 Challenger.
