Technical Foundation

Complete vs Tuner Kit & Roots vs Centrifugal

Understanding these concepts will help you choose the right kit. Our Supercharger Buyers Guide covers this in depth; here’s the essentials.

Complete Kit vs Tuner Kit

A Tuner Kit is the supercharger hardware only. It does not include: larger fuel injectors, upgraded MAP sensor, fuel pump (or booster), handheld programmer/flash tool, or the supercharger tune. Those components are 100% necessary to run safely. All kits in this guide are Complete Kits — Ripp is the only supercharger option for the Grand Cherokee 3.6L Pentastar.

A Complete Kit includes fuel injectors, MAP sensor, fuel pump upgrade, flash tool, and tuning. It’s 100% bolt-and-go for stock or lightly modified vehicles.

Roots vs Centrifugal

Ripp uses a centrifugal supercharger (Vortech V-3 head unit) mounted off the side of the engine. Per the Buyers Guide: “If you are a 3.6L V6 Pentastar owner, then Ripp is probably the best option for you.” Ripp is the best option for 3.6L owners — most extensive R&D, easiest install, most powerful and reliable. Centrifugal builds power toward mid-high RPM. Ripp includes 1-step colder spark plugs.

Important

What to Know Before You Buy

Tuning & Unlocked PCM (2015+)

2015+ Grand Cherokee has a locked PCM. Ripp 3.6L kits use HP Tuners; PCM unlock is included at no extra cost. The 2015 kit uses DiabloSport and requires your VIN and odometer to send a new PCM. 2011–2014 models have unlocked PCM; no unlock required. All kits require professional dyno tuning for best results.

Year-Specific Fitment

Ripp offers separate kits for 2011–2014, 2015 only, and 2016–2021 due to PCM and harness differences. The 2011–2014 kit delivers the highest gain (+167 whp). Confirm your model year before ordering. 2011 vehicles with belt-driven power steering may require sourcing a belt separately.

CARB & Emissions

Ripp 2011–2014 and 2016–2021 are 50-state CARB legal. Ripp 2015 is pending CARB. All Complete kits require 91 octane minimum. Standard warranty is 1-year. Clients have reported 1–4 mpg combined city/hwy increase.

Installation & Lead Times

Professional install recommended (6–8 hours). Budget for dyno tuning. Lead time: Ripp 2–4 weeks (built-to-order). Allow two weeks for assembly once ordered. Ripp includes 1-step colder spark plugs. Stock AWD V6 Grand Cherokee produces ~198 whp; Ripp nets 320–365 whp depending on year.
